Why the titel "A Mindful Death"?

To be Mindful is to focus your attention on what is happening in the present moment with a receptive, open attitude.

In my international love story and suspense drama "A Mindful Death" the protagonist is presented with a choice to show less defensiveness when his sense of self is challenged by a confrontation that threatens his mortality...and instead allowing compassion and fairness to weigh in on his decisions how to react...and act.

In "A Mindful Death" choices are made you wouldn't normally make. And the protagonist lives with the consequences knowing he made the best out of an impossible situation.

By "focusing his attention on what happened in the present moment, and doing so with a receptive, open attitude" he made choices he found a way to live with.

When you read "A Mindful Death" do so without judging. Instead feel empathy for the characters and the event that follows. You will find in the end that there is a love AND death that can be mindful...and justified.

"A Mindful Death" is scheduled for release in May 2017. Book launch and reading in Cold Spring scheduled for 6pm on September 28th, 2017 at lovely Hudson House Inn, Cold Spring NY.

Your Time is NOW!

If you walk around thinking you should do... then just do it!

Maybe you feel you're not ready, have to gain more experience, or wait until you have less of a hectic life...Or even worse you're telling yourself it's too late...

What am I talking about?

I could talk about any happening in your life, a transition, that you don't really want to acknowledge...but one that still exist and continue to "pop up" in your life, reminding you that one day you really need to address it...but not today....

Why not?!!

Just do it!

Take the thought, urge, desire to write a book, poetry, fiction or memoir as an example.

Writing is not a "sport" where you can claim you are "too old". No, writing is something you can start at any age and there's no excuse for not picking up the pen when you feel a burning desire to do so.

Do not "think" it's too late. Instead take a good look at yourself and the life experience you have gained, This is what you base a solid script on. Life is experienced at all ages. It's not a privilege for the "elderly" only. You'll have to make up your mind and decide if you are a person who talks about writing, or one who picks up the pen and write.

That's two completely different approaches. And one you need to make...today...not tomorrow...not when you "think" the time is right...

Just do it!

When your Editor "is feeling it" it got to be a good day!! So, allow me to publish his thoughts about my writing. I hope, once you buy and read a copy of my first book "A Mindful Death", available in stores and online in May 2017, you as well will like the international love and suspense story.

Jay Spear, Editor, said:

"No matter how exciting the possibilities of a story might seem, unless the actual writing of the book is properly done, it will not succeed. This is where Lars separates himself from most other writers. His prose is clear and precise.
In reading his manuscript as his editor, he maintained my interest and imagination throughout. He gave life to his characters and kept this reader caring about them on a very personal level.
I so wanted them to succeed and to fulfill their desires and needs for me and all the other readers who fall in love with Harry Anderson and the others."

Learning a new language is like growing a new head

Italians say that someone who acquires a new language "possesses" it. In the book "La Bella Lingua", Dianne Hales has a love affair with Italian, the world's most enchanting language.

My love for the Italian language is in the emotion it evokes in me when listening to it...the sound captivates me even if I don't understand the words that are spoken.

The written word [in English] possesses me, and with it racing like blood through my veins, I see with different eyes, hear with different ears, and drink in the world with all my senses...I have grown a new head. I have learned a new language.

The universal language of emotions.

“The photograph reflects a moment that is happening out in the world, and also one that is happening in the minds of the photographer and the viewer. The fact that the moment is fleeing and will never be repeated ads to its appeal. A photograph acknowledges this transience. The best ones match meaning to it.” - David Butow

Prologue - Perugia, Italy in the spring of 2015

Leonardo.

The photograph stared down at him from its spot on the wall.

After all these years, the pent-up feeling of having to live his life with a secret he couldn’t share was released. With a long strenuous exhale he could finally take that deep breath of fresh air again.

He looked at it with tired eyes - eyes that had seen so much pain, so much hope vanish too many times. The feeling of tasting the end, almost making it and being so close as if he could smell the victory even before crossing the finish line.

Too many years had passed, living his life chained to a lie; a lie necessitating fits of action and forced inaction.

Many times he had felt shame, regret and suspicion of betrayal. It had troubled him to the point of wanting to end it all; but when it came to a moment of clarity, there was too much at stake. Too many people depended on him sticking to the plan - the plan only he could see through, as if everyone else’s success fell on his willingness and strength to carry on.

What if? The question he never could answer. The road he had traveled on was unpaved and one that never could, for security reasons, be paved. The only thing he could do was to travel along, keep going without looking back; without taking those exit ramps that had presented themselves to him over the years. It was painful every time he saw an exit sign, knowing very well he never could divert from the path. Now, at last, Leonardo's comingled tormented soul had finally reached the end of the road with tears and a smile.

He reached up, grabbed the photograph, and took a last look at it before crumpling it in his right hand; the same hand that had squeezed the trigger on a Lupara short barrel shotgun, so many years before.

He looked down at his fist, still firmly squeezed in a desperate attempt to free himself. Wanting to squeeze the life and lies the photograph emitted.

He was overwhelmingly tired. He placed his head on the soft pillow, closed his eyes and realized after having kept it all inside, behind a wall of silence, that, finally, he had told his side of the story and freed himself from the heavy burden he had carried around all these years.
