Learning a new language is like growing a new head

Italians say that someone who acquires a new language "possesses" it. In the book "La Bella Lingua", Dianne Hales has a love affair with Italian, the world's most enchanting language.

My love for the Italian language is in the emotion it evokes in me when listening to it...the sound captivates me even if I don't understand the words that are spoken.

The written word [in English] possesses me, and with it racing like blood through my veins, I see with different eyes, hear with different ears, and drink in the world with all my senses...I have grown a new head. I have learned a new language.

The universal language of emotions.
